With the year drawing to a close, EAEA invites its members and partners to look back on 2017 and discuss the way ahead for adult education in Europe.
2017 was an eventful year for adult education, marked by several policy developments at the EU and global level as well as new synergies among civil society. Member States have been invited to start implementing Upskilling Pathways, an initiative launched by the European Commission in December 2016. At the global level, the commitments made at CONFINTEA VI in 2009 underwent a review, to which EAEA actively contributed.
It was also in 2017 that EAEA and adult education umbrella organisations have joined forces to celebrate the Year of Adult Education in Europe, bringing together 80 events in a pan-European campaign. From nation-wide adult education festivals to local debates, the events have concluded in several messages that the organisers would like to share with a wider adult education community.
2017 also marks the end of FinALE, an Erasmus+ project which has tackled financing adult education. The project consortium is now ready to present an analysis of the effectiveness of financing tools in adult education as well as the applicability of the indicators developed in the project.
Finally, throughout 2017 EAEA continued to work on the topic of adult education and refugees. One year after a policy debate on how adult education could support in integrating refugees in their new countries, we will look at the lessons learnt since then.
Against this background, we invite you to join us in Brussels on 6-7 December to discuss what directions adult education could take in the future.
